Using Pedal
Videos, setup, your team, and quick fixes.
More short videos on specific parts of Pedal are on the way.
Start with the Get Started form. It takes a minute, and leads straight into setting up your organization.
Enter your mission or walk through a simple questionnaire that will help you write it.
Getting started with Pedal walks through each step.
1. Build your organization profile.
Enter your mission and core programs and services, or let Pedal help you develop the language. Pedal can help organize and describe your programs, and everything stays editable. We'll email you a free one-sheet with your mission and program descriptions.
2. Create your account.
You'll be joining Pedal's beta, where your experience and feedback will help shape the tool as we continue building. You'll enter a credit card to begin your 30-day free trial. You won't be charged during the trial, and we'll email you before your first charge.
3. Add your financial information.
Upload your current year budget and, if you have it, last year's actuals. You can also upload a staff list with positions and salaries (titles alone are fine if you'd rather not include names), along with your institutional funders and grants. Pedal maps your information into its own categories so you can compare things side by side. You'll review and correct that mapping as needed.
Even with a budget uploaded, you'll walk through parts of the Budget Builder. This is where you show how your revenue, staffing, and other costs connect to your programs, which is what makes the program views work. Reasonable estimates are fine. This isn't accounting. It's about creating a shared understanding of your organization's business model.
4. Explore your organization with Ask Pedal.
Take a look at your dashboard, program pages, budget, and allocation reports. Try Ask Pedal to ask questions about your finances, explore how resources support your programs, and better understand your organization's financial health. If a number looks wrong, it may trace back to an allocation choice that's easy to adjust.
5. Share what you've built.
Invite your board and staff into Pedal so everyone can explore the same information, ask questions, and develop a shared understanding of your organization's mission, programs, and finances.
6. Try building a first draft of next year's budget.
Use Pedal's Budget Builder to create next year's budget from scratch or upload an existing draft. You can reference previous budgets and actuals, compare financial information across years, and use the easy-access calculator templates to help develop your revenue and expense projections along the way.
Setup looks different depending on the organization. Often it's the Executive Director, because the work involves judgment calls about programs and money. In a smaller organization it may be the board chair. Sometimes a consultant does the setup alongside staff. What matters is that whoever does it knows how the programs actually work and where the money comes from. Once your information is in, bring in one or two board members, and eventually invite your entire board and staff for a shared understanding of your business model.
Your one-sheet is a one-page PDF overview of your organization, with your mission and program descriptions. We email it to you once it's ready after setup, and you can download it any time with Download One-Sheet on your Dashboard or Programs page.
We recommend you invite your board and your staff. Every person in your organization has one of three roles. Admin has full access, including billing and managing who has access. Staff can update your organization's content, budgets, and insights. Board can view the dashboard, budget, insights, and downloads.
Admins invite people from Organization Access in the account menu. Invitations last 30 days.
I didn't get my verification code.
Check your spam folder, then use Resend verification code on the sign-up screen (it's available again after 60 seconds). If the code has expired, request a new one.
I forgot my password.
Choose Forgot password on the login screen and we'll email you a 6-digit code to reset it. If it says no password account was found, you signed up with Google — use Sign in with Google.
My invitation expired or doesn't work.
Invitations last 30 days, and must be accepted with the email address they were sent to. Ask your organization's admin to resend it, then sign in with that address.
It says my account "isn't linked to an organization."
You're signed in, but not a member of any organization yet. Accept an invitation (signed in with the invited address), or choose Set up an organization to start your own.
My upload put lines in the wrong categories.
Fix them before the draft is created: change the category on each line during mapping, or use Edit mappings on the review step to change a category, fix an amount, delete a row, or add one.
I can't find the budget builder or uploads.
Those are for Admins and Staff. The Board role is view-only — ask your organization's admin to change your role if you need to edit.
The Export button is greyed out.
Exports are available once the budget is published.
It says "Access is paused."
Your organization's subscription has ended. If you're an Admin, add a card to start your subscription or email support@pedaltogether.com and we'll help you reactivate. Otherwise, contact your organization's admin.
It says my organization hasn't finished signing up.
Sign-up started but the card wasn't added. Add a payment method to continue — billing stays open while you do.
Account
Plans and billing.
How much does Pedal cost?
Pricing follows the size of your annual budget, starting at $250 a year. You pay an introductory price for your first paid year, then the regular price. See Pricing, or the full pricing table for every tier.
How does the 30-day free trial work?
Your first 30 days are free. You add a card at sign-up, and the first charge comes after those 30 days. Before the trial ends we email you the exact amount, when the introductory price ends, and how to cancel — cancel before the trial ends and you won't be charged.
Where do I manage billing?
Admins open Billing from the account menu to see the plan, next billing date, and upcoming payment; add or update a card; and download invoices. To switch between monthly and yearly billing or change your budget tier, email support@pedaltogether.com.
How do I cancel?
An Admin cancels from Billing, even during the free trial. Your organization keeps access until the end of the current billing period, and billing stops after that. Changed your mind before then? Choose Keep account active.
I have a foundation code. Where do I use it?
Enter it with Have a foundation code? when you sign up, or open the redemption link you were sent. You see exactly what the code covers before anything is charged.

While we're in beta we especially want to hear where something was confusing, or where Pedal assumed something about your organization that didn't fit.
